What you should know before applying for a grant
J.A. Grifols Foundation awards community enhancement grants to support local development, health & well-being, and educational programs that address the immediate needs and have an enduring impact in the communities where Grifols plasma and blood donor centers exist, and donors live.
In determining eligibility for approving a grant, the Foundation will consider an organization, program or activity that meets the following criteria:
Is requested from a documented civic, social, or educational non-governmental organization (NGO)with a philanthropic purpose or public educational institution.
Aims to address such objectives such as creating positive change and sustainable growth by meeting local community needs such working to end homelessness and creating opportunities for residents; enhancing programs that improve the overall quality of life such as addressing food security and supporting crisis intervention programs; advancing educational initiatives that provide additional support and resources beyond traditional classroom instruction such as mentoring and vocational skills development; and improving the national environment by promoting sustainability, local park development, and educational programs to raise awareness about environmental issues.
Directly impacts or benefits communities where Grifols has a permanent office, plasma or blood donor center.
Is not healthcare related, a medical grant or patient organization grant request.
Organizations seeking consideration from the Foundation may apply once a year for two (2) consecutive years. After submitting an Application for two (2) consecutive years, an Organization must wait one (1) year before once again submitting another Application.
Foundation will not support grant requests that are submitted by:
- Organizations requesting payment to individuals rather than organizations.
- A Grifols customer, patient or other related entity where there may be the potential for the appearance of self-interest.
- Healthcare related organizations, interpreted broadly to include any request that concerns, directly or indirectly, the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and management of diseases, the preservation of mental and physical well-being, and the provision of goods, services and education for any of these purposes.
- Organizations without documented non-profit designation.
- Entities that discriminate based on age, sex, gender identity, race, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, or disability with respect to employment, volunteer participation or the provision of services.
- Political, labor, fraternal organizations, civic clubs or any organizations whose primary purpose is to influence public policy or legislation.
- Institutions whose primary purpose is to advance a religious ideology and/or that require participation in religious study as a condition to receive benefits.
- Organizations intending to solely fund, sponsor, or underwrite specific events such as galas, sporting events, or 5K runs.
Foundation will not support requests to fund in any way supplement employee salaries unless such salaries are affiliated with specific program funding explicitly stated within the request.
Foundation will not financially support pilot programs, capital fundraising programs, or requests for items/services that directly or indirectly assist or implement fundraising activities of an Organization at this time.
Foundation will not consider Applications from schools, except under extenuating circumstances.

The Foundation provides grants to organizations and projects that directly support our program goals. The Foundation Board’s decision are based on a number of factors, including eligibility criteria, projects that support our program goals, available funds, and alignment with the Foundation’s Mission.
Community Enhancement Grant applications are reviewed on a quarterly basis by the J.A. Grifols Foundation board, at the end of the quarter. Applicants are notified of their approval or denial within two weeks of review.
In order to maximize the impact of the Foundation’s charitable donations, the Foundation encourages those Organizations seeking financial support consideration from the Foundation to be able to support a grant request of at least fifteen thousand U.S. dollars ($15,000.00 USD). Such amount should not include requests for funds to in any way supplement employee salaries unless such salaries are affiliated with specific program funding explicitly stated as such within the request.
